MA in Urban Affairs & Public Policy

Program Description

The M.A. in Urban Affairs and Public Policy program at the University of Delaware emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to understanding communities and the policies that affect them. The core integration of academics, public service, and research makes our program a leader in the field as well as a model for the combination of theory and practice. Students take courses and simultaneously engage in service and research for public, private, and nonprofit organizations.

Concentrations

Students in the M.A. program typically choose one of four areas of concentration:

· Community Development and Nonprofit Leadership
· Energy, Environment, and Equity
· Historic Preservation
· Urban and Regional Planning

In addition, an individually designed specialization can be developed that is consistent with a student's interests and faculty expertise. Examples of individually designed concentrations include: housing, social policy, international and comparative policy analysis.

Curriculum and Requirements

Students must complete 36 credits of course work that includes 12 credits of core curriculum. The remaining 24 credit hours consist of courses in a student’s chosen area of concentration, fulfillment of the writing requirement and electives.
